“I did not know that mankind were suffering
for want of gold. I have seen a little of it.
I know that it is very malleable,
but not so malleable as wit.
A grain of gold will gild a great surface,
but not so much as a grain of wisdom.”

Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.”

“But Nature granted to gold and silver
no function with which we cannot easily dispense.
Human folly has made them precious
because they are rare.
In contrast, Nature, like a most indulgent mother,
has placed her best gifts out in the open,
like air, water and the earth itself;
vain and unprofitable things
she has hidden away in remote places.”

that in reality water is the most expensive
natural resource for their survivals.
Not Middle East oil neither African gold.”

Magnolia stellata buds
Great quotes, esp. the Payne. 🙂 Lovely Edgeworthia!
The Payne expresses just how we are feeling at the moment! So many dark, overcast clammy days lately; every time the sun breaks through we celebrate! We had a few hours this afternoon, followed by a golden sunset 😉 We were a little surprised to notice the Edgeworthia opening so early. It always brings a smile! – Hope you are well, Eliza, and finding signs of spring ❤ ❤ ❤
The only sign of spring here is the swelling buds of the forsythia I cut last week to bring inside. Any port in the storm! 😉
That’s the truth !
