Sunday Dinner: Synchronicity

October 11, 2015 Parkway 011

“I do believe in an everyday sort of magic –

– the inexplicable connectedness we sometimes experience

with places, people, works of art and the like;

the eerie appropriateness of moments of synchronicity;

the whispered voice, the hidden presence,

when we think we’re alone.”

Charles de Lint

“Each man had only one genuine vocation –

to find the way to himself….

His task was to discover his own destiny –

not an arbitrary one –

and to live it out wholly and resolutely within himself.

Everything else was only a would-be existence,

an attempt at evasion,

a flight back to the ideals of the masses,

conformity and fear of one’s own inwardness.”

Hermann Hesse

“We do not create our destiny;

we participate in its unfolding.

Synchronicity works as a catalyst

toward the working out of that destiny.”

“All of us, whether or not we are warriors,

have a cubic centimeter of chance

that pops out in front of our eyes

from time to time.

The difference between an average man and a warrior

is that the warrior is aware of this,

and one of his tasks is to be alert,

deliberately waiting,

so that when his cubic centimeter pops out

he has the necessary speed,

the prowess, to pick it up.”

Carlos Castaneda

  1. Enjoying the quotes and the photos!

  2. I DO feel a connectedness with everything–that’s what keeps me afloat. I like your selections of prose especially the Carlos Castaneda.

  3. Like this quote, “we do not create our destiny”…how true! Talking about magic, you showed some on the first, second, and last image – beautiful!

    • Thank you ❤ I'm so happy those quotations speak to you, too. The first image is my favorite with the clouds in the pond. Fall is such a magical time. You can almost feel it crackling in the air. Thank you for visiting and for leaving a comment ❤

  4. What a nice word: synchronicity! Beautiful quotes, and Carlos Castaneda’s is amazing! I love all images, and the last one is my favourite!

    • thank you, Maria. I am glad you like the Castenada quote. have you read any of his books? They are very inspiring and definitely interesting for anyone who loves the plant kingdom, as he interacts with the ‘spirit’ of certain plants. Thank you for mentioning the last photo- that one was almost left off. So glad you like it, too ❤ ❤ ❤

      • I meant to answer your question. No, I have not read Castañeda, but have heard great things about him. “Carlos Castaneda was an American author with a Ph.D. in anthropology. Starting with The Teachings of Don Juan in 1968, Castaneda wrote a series of books that describe his training in shamanism, particularly a group that he called the Toltec”. -Wiki
        I hope to get to his work one day.
