“It is said by the Eldar that in water there lives yet
the echo of the Music of the Ainur
more than in any substance that is in this Earth;
and many of the Children of Ilúvatar hearken
still unsated to the voices of the Sea,
and yet know not for what they listen.”

“When you sit in silence long enough,
you learn that silence has a motion.
It glides over you without shape or form, exactly like water.
Its color is silver.
And silence has a sound you hear
only after hours of wading inside it.
The sound is soft, like flute notes rising up,
like the words of glass speaking.
Then there comes a point when you must shatter
the blindness of its words, the blindness of its light.”

All photos from Brent and Becky’ Heath’s display garden in Gloucester, Virginia
Were these taken recently or on your trip in April?
These were taken Saturday up in Gloucester, VA. We visited the display gardens at Brent and Becky’s bulbs, which was full of butterflies, Eliza. I wish you had been there with us. Just absolutely gorgeous, and you could have named the ones I couldn’t! All perennials were half off, and I came home with Echinacea ‘Green Jewel’ and a lovely variegated Yucca. I was thrilled to find pots and pots of winter blooming Iris, too. A fabulous day trip!
Ooh, lucky you, sounds like a day trip I’d love! ‘Green Jewel’ sounds wonderful. 🙂
Have you grown either of the green hybrid Echinaceas, Eliza? I planted ours with the Yucca and a blue Agastache. I hope they are vigorous.
No, I haven’t grown any of the green. Just white and pink. I find the white not as vigorous, and a salmon one I planted failed to return the next year. I suspect hybrids not to be as hardy.
I agree with you, Eliza. The species is so much more reliable than the hybrids. I can never keep the white ones going for more than a couple of seasons, and haven’t tried the Salmon. It will be interesting to see how the E. ‘Green Jewel’ comes back. They are cute little plants with a single flower each. I realize I should cut them for the health of the plant, but haven’t done so yet- maybe on Monday 😉
Cooling, gorgeous photos!
It was a lovely day 😉
