Silent Sunday: Budding

March 29, 2015 018

“I have no right to call myself one who knows.

I was one who seeks, and I still am,

March 29, 2015 021

but I no longer seek in the stars or in books;

I’m beginning to hear the teachings of my blood

pulsing within me.

March 29, 2015 025

My story isn’t pleasant, it’s not sweet and harmonious

like the invented stories;

it tastes of folly and bewilderment,

of madness and dream, like the life of all people

who no longer want to lie to themselves.”

Hermann Hesse

“This life therefore is not righteousness,

but growth in righteousness,

not health, but healing, not being but becoming,

not rest but exercise.

March 29, 2015 049

We are not yet what we shall be,

but we are growing toward it,

the process is not yet finished,

March 29, 2015 031

but it is going on, this is not the end,

March 29, 2015 029

but it is the road.

All does not yet gleam in glory, but all is being purified.”

Martin Luther

  1. Ahhhh, spring. Beautiful post, WG. 🙂

  2. Ah things are warming up. We look for the buds to do something soon 🙂

    • I certainly hope so! April must bring spring to us all. We have a warmer week ahead, after a briskly cold but sunny day today. (Read: sweaters, socks, tea, and I’m still chilly 😉

  3. Gorgeous post WG! The quotes were beautiful and brought tears to my eyes. The photos were perfect for the theme of “becoming”. It is so exciting to watch the buds swell and anticipate their opening. Blessings! Sarah

  4. Glad to see that everything is budding, here too until we had the hard frost last night. It got 26 and all the tree buds, flowers, etc. including all the buds on my grape vines are all dead this morning. Crazy weather, we had 77 degrees last Tuesday! Happy Sunday!! 🙂

    • Oh Michael, I’m so sorry to hear that. We had mid-20s last night, too, but it has been cold the last few days and nights so things weren’t out as much. I only covered three things- brought right much in- but don’t see any real damage today. I hope the woody plants send out new buds soon enough. Love your new walnut slabs! Is that one of your trees the ice brought down?

  5. The buds are popping! You must be so excited! What are the pink buds – cherry?

    • close… Peach 😉 We are thrilled to see them opening at last. Everything survived last night, even the Alyssum! Wonderful to watch the silhouettes of the buds swell and take shape. How are you doing today? How much more snow this weekend for you? It snowed to our south yesterday, but stayed south of the James. Boy, when I crossed the river yesterday traveling it was like driving into a different world full of low hanging grey clouds and damp winds. Amazing….
