Ooh, nice! Definitely NOT a photo for B&W! 😉 I hope it gets through the weekend without being nipped. Luckily, yours is in shade, so less vulnerable. The magnolias up here often get nipped, casualties of Jack Frost.
That is such a shame, Eliza. I’m glad yours grows in shade. Maybe a few fewer flowers, but a better chance of survival? We bought a white butterfly Magnolia yesterday (yes, the half price sale again) which is already nearly waist high and covered, COVERED in buds at various stages of opening. And it is tucked safely away under the deck, out of the wind, until we get safely through to Monday. So frustrating to wait an entire year for a tree or shrub to bloom- then have those blooms get nipped. Now I’m wondering whether our Hydrangea buds (beginning to open in the milder temps) will get blasted again this year…. No- the shot of my neighbor’s Magnolia definitely needs to be viewed in color 😉 The color of spring 😉
Was that a star magnolia you bought? I love those, too. Another one for my list. 😉
It is : Magnolia stellata “Royal Star”. We’ve picked the spot for it where it will have plenty of room to grow. Once the weather settles next week it can come out of its shelter into the garden 😉 We saw an older one in bloom in someone’s garden this week- so pretty 😉 Best wishes for a warm and cozy weekend 😉

Yes, it is. This tree is in full sun. Mine, which are more shaded, are still in the fuzzy bud stage, without color yet. I think you’ve had it a bit colder and rougher than we have this winter, Robin. I’m glad to see this winter ending. Welcome spring 😉

~~sugar magnolia blossoms blooming~~ . . . . well, these have a little bit further to go before that song plays . . . though so far i have enjoyed the buds of some flowers more than when they bloom:: like rhododendron’s for instance, the buds hold these deep dark colors that are tantalizing, yet when they open into frilly blooms the color isn’t as the bud had promised but then:: the flower itself is lovely in a new way, world within worlds! it’s amazing how nature manifests at each stage holding one pearly whole after another 🙂

Ah- then you are a week or so ahead of us. We’ll catch up soon enough. These gorgeous blossoms always light up the garden and scream, “It is truly spring!”

Thank you, Martina 😉 Yes, spring has unfolded slowly this year, but we are surrounded by budding trees, daffodils, Forsythia, and the first stirrings of the perennials. It is slow enough to saver 😉 Giant hugs to you ❤
