A nesting pair of Osprey Eagles has built its nest in an ancient pine tree along the Colonial Parkway near Jamestown, Virginia.
The sculptural form of this tree always grabs my attention as we drive past. I’ve photographed it many times in different seasons and in different light.
We were delighted to find the eagles and their nest today, in the top of the tree.
Both eagles came and went as we watched, always returning with something clutched in their beak.
Sometimes returning with a wiggling fish, other times with a branch to expand the nest.
They are a busy young parents, on top of the world, with a hungry family to care for.

Nice narrative of this bird I didn’t get to see when I was in FL. They nested away far from where I was,
When you visit the Virginia coast, you will definitely see them! These are elegant birds, great fun to watch in flight. They don’t mind nesting near people, and so nest near neighborhoods and roads. I have a second series of photos of a pair trying to begin a nest on tree only a few feet from the Parkway. Thank you for visiting Forest Garden! Best wishes, WG
Great shots of parents and tree snag with the nest. I loved watching the ospreys in FL when we visited. Occasionally we see them pass through here over the river. Do you ever watch those webcams they have of nests at this time of year? The babies are fuzzy-headed, gangly and awkward – cute in their own way!
Wow, amazing photos, Elizabeth! Perfect for this week’s challenge. I love ospreys 🙂 Hope you’re having a wonderful Easter weekend!
Cheers,
Tyler 🙂
So wonderful to hear from you, Tyler. How have you been? We love Osprey’s, too, and are always happy to see them raising families around the water here. As you can see in the photo, we’re having Oregon weather today! Gentle rain temps in the 50s, but still a nice day to be out. Best wishes to you and yours for a wonderful Easter weekend. Does yours include chocolate? Cheers! WG
Yes, I hear you about the weather. It’s been shifting between sun and rain today…bipolar Oregon weather as usual 🙂 It’s been a busy week. My wife and I ran our first half marathon last Sunday and had a great time. On Tuesday, I had an interview and then another job I interviewed for the week before called and hired me. I’m still keeping my options open, but if I don’t get hired for the other job that I want more, I’ll be working for the Forest Service starting May 19th, controlling and surveying noxious weeds on timberlands. It’s a seasonal job, but I’m not complaining 🙂 I’m certainly relieved and happy! I can have sugar-free dark chocolate, but nothing as rich as the Cadbury Eggs. Hope all is well with you and yours 🙂 I’ll keep you posted about what I decide.
Cheers,
Tyler 🙂
Best news of the weekend to hear about your job offer and interviews! I’m so happy for you, Tyler! Congratulations on running your half-marathon. That took a lot of prep and effort, and I admire you for completing that. Please do let me know what you decide to do about your job offers. Such spectacular news! Cheers, WG
Wow! Your photos are stunning! What a joy to have eagles in your life. Blessings, Sarah
Blessings to you, Sarah, and happy Easter! Such fun to find these guys today. We found another pair just beginning their nest- photos to follow 😉 Hugs to you,
