The Old That Is Strong

Song Of Aragorn

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,

January 9 2014 ice on Parkway 087
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;

January 9 2014 ice on Parkway 098
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.

(A favorite Tolkein poem, from The Fellowship of the Ring,  and photos taken this week on the rock reinforced banks of the James River near Jamestown Island .)

  1. I love that poem by Aragorn (Tolkein)! 🙂 And your wintry pics are quite clear and pretty!

  2. A favorite of mine as we’ll. I love your juxaposition of the song with the winter photos of old trees. Very much like Tolkien! -Sarah

    • There is a book out now about Tolkien’s own drawings and paintings called, “Tolkien’s Art.” Have you seen it? His work is endlessly fascinating to me. So glad you saw the connection. That poem kept running through my mind while looking over and editing the photos. Best wishes for a beautiful Sunday, Sarah, WG
